Travel Gadget Gives Out ‘Today’ Host’s Phone Number

In case you missed it on Friday, Hoda Kotb was showing off Samsung’s new Smartwatch which syncs to your Samsung phones and can show you missed notifications, voicemail, the weather and more – great for on the go-travelers. Basic onboard apps include a pedometer and the ability to find your Galaxy (or, alternatively, an option to find your Gear via your Galaxy handset), but most impressive of all is the number of compatible apps. Samsung says there are over 70 to choose from — which can be installed via the Galaxy Gear Manager app on your phone — and I spotted some popular names like Pocket, Path, Evernote, RunKeeper, and Runtastic Pro. Samsung’s S Voice is also accessible via the Gear

It also has a caller ID function to allow you to see who’s calling before looking for your phone. And that’s where Hoda ran into some trouble. Her watch displayed her cell phone number, on air, to all of America. Almost instantly she began getting voicemail and text message notifications from viewers.

Lesson learned: Always read the instructions first!
