United Letter Accuses Flight Attendants Union of Causing Furloughs

Letter from United VP of Inflight Services to AFA President

We’ve gotten hold of a letter from Sam Risoli, Senior Vice President of Inflight Services at United to the President of the AFA for United’s flight attendants, Gregory Davidowitch. The battle within United seems to be getting even more turbulent during a time when the airline should have already begun smoothing out after the merger.

Among other things, the letter accuses the AFA of misrepresenting United’s recent decision to furlough approximately 800 flight attendants. United claims that they have been trying to negotiate an agreement in which flight attendants, who flew for United prior to the merger with Continental, could voluntarily “cross-over” to the Continental side of the operation. Both airlines are currently still operating separately but within United Airlines.

Here is the letter (Click to enlarge, will open another window):

Do you feel United’s decision to furlough flight attendants on the United side while still hiring on the Continental side is fair?
