If you’re planning a trip to Asia this fall, consider booking an award flight with Delta Air Lines using SkyMiles at reduced mileage rates.
Mileage redemptions start at 40,000 SkyMiles and go up to 64,000 miles for a return trip from the 48 contiguous United States to Beijing; Shanghai, China; Seoul, South Korea; and Tokyo. You might have heard that Delta no longer publishes award charts, but low-level round-trip award flights to these destinations usually go for 70,000 SkyMiles, so you’re getting quite a deal.
To take advantage of the discounted redemption rates, you must book your flights on Delta.com by 11:59 p.m. EST on July 3 and travel between Sept. 4 and Dec. 13. Blackout dates apply to certain itineraries, and a stay of at least 10 days is required.
Let’s take a look at some award examples you can book.
Portland, Ore., to Beijing
Portland residents can fly to Beijing and redeem just 40,000 SkyMiles for a return trip in September. There, you can visit the infamous Tiananmen Square, the iconic Forbidden City and take a day trip to the impressive Great Wall of China. Remember that U.S. citizens require a visa for travel to China.
Salt Lake City to Tokyo
Utahns can take advantage of the sale and travel to the Land of the Rising Sun. Fly from Salt Lake City to Tokyo and back for just 60,000 SkyMiles and save at least 10,000 miles per round-trip ticket. View Japan’s vibrant capital from the Tokyo Skytree, shop in the buzzing Harajuku district and, of course, fill your belly with authentic sushi and ramen.
San Francisco to Seoul
The most expensive redemption rates are to Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, and even then they’re below the low-level award cost of 70,000 miles. If you live in San Francisco, redeem just 64,000 SkyMiles for a trip to Seoul where you can visit the well-preserved Changdeokgung Palace, party in the Hongdae district and hike the mountains of Bukhansan National Park.
Although this specific Delta sale is best for those who collect SkyMiles, it’s also available to flyers who pay cash. Still, when you compare cash rates to the discounted redemption rates, your miles offer more value. If a trip to Asia fits in your plans, don’t wait too long and book these flights no later than July 3.
